2D ultrasounds have been used for years and provide basic two-dimensional, black and white images of your baby.

3D ultrasound is a more advanced method, which captures a true, three-dimensional image of your baby, often allowing us to see specific facial features and well-defined formation.

4D ultrasound provides a moving three-dimensional image of your baby in the womb. With a 4D ultrasound, we can capture your baby yawning, turning their head, sucking their thumb, or even waving!

5D/HD is the latest and more advanced technology which uses a light source to illuminate your baby’s features and provides a realistic life like image of your baby.

Rest assured, both 3D, 4D and 5D ultrasounds use the exact same intensity as a normal 2D ultrasound. With 4D, it is the extra processing that allows the images to appear to be moving in real time and 5D uses a light source which creates realistic life like images of your baby.

As with all ultrasounds, no radiation or harmful agents are used. The images are simply created by high frequency sound waves. We use the latest and most up to date technology ensuring your baby’s safety at all times.

Non diagnostic means that the ultrasound is not intended to diagnose or provide and medical information or measurements. We do not look for anomalies during your ultrasound, so you will not be informed if anything unusual is detected.

No, you do not require a doctor’s referral for our services, as our ultrasound imaging services are non-diagnostic. They are an elective procedure, for photographic purposes only. Please refer to the question above for more detailed information.

If you would like your baby’s gender to remain a surprise, please let us know beforehand even if you a returning for a scan.

Sometimes, distinguishing baby’s gender is not so easy, due to your baby’s position, developmental stage, the amount of amniotic fluid around baby, cord between baby’s legs or your own body mass. At Miracle Beginnings, we will endeavor to do our very best to determine the gender, but if we are unable to on the day, we will re-schedule you for a free return ultrasound until we can accurately determine baby’s gender.

At Miracle Beginnings, we make it our number one priority to achieve the absolute best ultrasound images of your baby on the day of your ultrasound. However, there are some factors that might affect the quality of the images.

The amount of amniotic fluid around your baby is one of the most important factors that influence the outcome of your ultrasound images. We need a good volume of clear amniotic fluid around your baby to create high quality images for you. Please follow the water preparation advised on our website.

Having a high BMI or being over weight can affect the clarity and quality of your ultrasound images. If you have more body tissue, it means that the sound wave from the ultrasound probe has more tissue layers to travel through and this can cause the sound waves beam to become distorted which affects the clarity of the images. We do however have the most up to date equipment and will do our best to capture the best possible image of your baby.

The fetal position of your baby inside the womb is one of the key factors in capturing good quality images. If your baby is facing forward in the womb looking towards Mums belly, we can generally capture excellent images of your baby. But if baby is looking towards mum’s spine, or has their face pressed up against the placenta, it can make it more challenging to capture good quality images. Some babies may also have their cord, hands and feet in front of their face.

On the day, we will gently try to make your baby move as much as possible, by getting you to stretch, or roll on to your side, or have something cold to drink, so that we can capture the best possible image for you.

As we said above, the fetal position of your baby is the key factor in capturing high quality images. With breech position, your baby’s head is located at the top of your uterus and the feet are down – which can make it harder to capture clear ultrasound images.

If your baby is in breech position, it would be best to wait and see if he or she turns before scheduling your 3D/4D ultrasound. If by 31 weeks your baby is still breech, we can go ahead with an appointment – if your amniotic fluid is nice and clear we should be able to achieve some good images for you.

There are a few things you can do before your appointment.

Check the latest updates on our social media pages and website regarding any Covid 19 restrictions that might affect your appointment.

Preparation: Most importantly, you’ll want to be well hydrated, which increases the volume and clarity of your amniotic fluid, so we have a nice pocket of fluid in front of baby’s face for our soundwaves to travel through.

It is essential that you drink at least 2 to 3 litres of water a day, for 7-10 days before your appointment especially for your 3D/4D & 5D images.

About half an hour before your appointment, you might like to drink a fruit juice or eat something sweet, to wake baby up before your ultrasound. This will help improve the chances of capturing moving images during the scan. Please wear a 2 piece outfit to your ultrasound. Bring some cold water with you to your appointment.

Book your appointment time for when you know baby is usually active. Sleepy babies can be hard to capture depending on their position.

If Covid 19 restrictions are in place, then guest numbers will be limited based on the information and requirements outlined by Queensland Health at the time. These restrictions (if in place) will always replace our normal policy for guest numbers mentioned below.
